1956: Elvis Presley made chart history when he had 10 songs on Billboards Top 100 for week ending Dec 19th.

 

1964: The Liverpool Youth Employment Service announced, that some school leavers were having difficulties finding jobs, because their 'Beatle' style haircuts and clothing were unacceptable to potential employers.

1966: The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their debut on Top Of The Pops, the UK TV show. They performed the song 'Hey Joe'.

 

1968: Led Zeppelin appeared at the Civic Auditorium, Portland. This was their first North American tour, as they opened for Vanilla Fudge.

1973: Jim Croce scored his second No.1 US single of the year when his song 'Time In A Bottle' reached the top of the charts. Croce was killed in a plane crash on his way to a concert on September 20, 1973.

 

1982: Sets of commemorative stamps in memory of Bob Marley were issued in Jamaica.

 

1984: Band Aid were at the top of the UK singles chart with 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' Also, Madonna was at the top of the US singles chart with 'Like A Virgin.'
