Slayer is an American thrash metal band that was formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California by Tom Araya (vocals, bass), Kerry King (guitar) and Jeff Hanneman (guitar).

Slayer is known as on of the "big four" of thrash metal along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, due to the band's fast and aggressive musical style.

The band's current lineup consists of Araya, King, Paul Bostaph (drums) and Gary Holt (guitar). Hanneman, Dave Lombardo and Jon Dette left the band and are now past members.

The band members of Slayer are very particular about who they work with outside of the band, and frequently reject proposals for side projects and guest appearances. Some of the musicians and artists who made the cut and have been able to work with Slyaer include Pantera, Soulfly and Rob Zombie.

The band has released 12 studio albums, 2 live albums, a box set, 6 music videos, 2 extended plays and a cover album, with four of the band's studio albums receiving gold certification in the US. The band was nominated five times for the Grammy Award and won twice. Once, in 2007, for their song "Eyes of the Insane" and the second time in 2008, for their song "Final Six." Between the years 1991-2013, Slayer have sold 5 million albums in the US and more than 20 million albums worldwide.
