Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American singer and songwriter, Sharon Van Etten.
Sharon Van Etten is an American singer and songwriter from New Jersey.
She was born in Belleville, New Jersey, but moved to Tennessee in her late teens, and in 2005, Van Etten moved to New York City.
She first self-released handmade CDs until she recorded and released her debut studio album, Because I Was in Love, in 2009. Before her studio debut, Van Etten worked at Astor Wines and as a publicist at Ba Da Bing Records.
Her song "Seventeen" is a nostalgic tribute to the places that shaped her in the Big Apple, even if they have long since gone and disappeared. The song is really a Springsteenian love letter to Van Etten's adopted hometown.
"Seventeen" was originally a country lament in the style of Lucinda Williams, before it transformed into a Springsteen or Arcade Fire-type wall of sound.
