Shania Twain (real name: Eilleen Regina Edwards) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. When she was only two years old, her father left and she was adopted by her stepfather, an Ojibway Indian named Jerry Twain, when she was four years old.

At the age of 25, Eileen took the name "Shania," which means "I'm on my way" in the language of her stepfather, Jerry. She helped raise her sisters and two brothers after her parents died in a car accident in 1987 when she was 22 years old. In order to help and support them, Shania earned money by singing at the Deerhurst resort in Huntsville, Ontario.

Twain pursued singing and songwriting from a young age and then signed with Mercury Nashville Records in the early 1990s. Her debut studio album saw little success when it was released in 1993, byt after collaborating with producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who later also became her husban, she gained fame and saw great success with her second studio album, The Woman in Me from 1995. This album had sold 20 million copies all over the world.

Twain has won many awards during her music career, among them are five Grammy Awards, 27 BMI Songwriter Awards, a stars on Canada's Walk of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she was also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Twain is also the only female artist in history that have three (consecutive) albums certified Diamond by the RIAA. Overall, Twain has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, which makes her the best-selling female artist in country music history and among the best-selling music artists of all time. Her success also gained her the title "Queen of Country Pop."
