New Kids on the Block is an American boy band that was formed in 1984 in Boston, Massachusetts, and currently consists of Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and Joey McIntyre.
Donnie Wahlberg was the first member to be selected for the band. He then helped guide the creators in other band member choices, and among those recommended by Donnie Wahlberg were Donnie Wood (his best friend) and Jordan Knight (his schoolmate).
The band members were also real gentlemen regarding the comfort of their teenaged fans and their parents. They requested hospitality room for parents of their fans and also that coffee and donuts be served to the parents for free or at a minimal cost.
In 1990, New Kids on the Block won two American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo, or Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album and in 2014 the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Overall, they have sold over 80 million records all over the world.
