Midnight Oil are an Australian rock band that was formed in 1972 in Sydney, Australia. They consist Peter Garrett (vocals, harmonica), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboard), Martin Rotsey (guitar), Bones Hillman (bass guitar) and Rob Hirst (drums).

One of the band's most famous and successful songs is "Beds Are Burning" which is actually a political song. The song deals with giving native Australian lands back to the Pintupi, who were among the very last people to come in from the desert.

Midnight Oil performed "Beds Are Burning" in front of a world audience of billions, at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. All the band members were dressed in black, with the words "sorry" printed conspicuously on their clothes.

Midnight Oil have won eleven Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards, and in 2006 the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
