Macklemore (real name: Benjamin Hammond Haggerty) is an American singer, rapper and songwriter from Seattle, Washington.
Macklemore was still a teen when he began writing lyrics at the age of 14. He said that he was inspired by a lot of East Coast underground hip hop, including Nas and Wu-Tang Clan.
Macklemore first met Ryan Lewis, with whom he has collaborated on his biggest hits, in 2006. Initially, Lewis photographed Macklemore for his promotional shots, before switching to the role of producer.
Macklemore and Lewis's single "Thrift Shop" topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2013, and overall since 2000, Macklemore has independently released one mixtape, three EPs, and four albums.
