Kings of Leon is an American rock band that was formed in 1999 in NashvilleTennessee, and consists of of Caleb Followill (lead vocalsrhythm guitar), Nathan Followill (drumspercussionbacking vocals), Jared Followill (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Matthew Followill (lead guitar, backing vocals).

With nothing but a Led Zeppelin boxed set, Nathan Followill said that they kidnapped their cousin from Mississippi, told him mother he was coming for the week and just never let him go home.

They locked themselves in the basement with an ounce of marijuana and literally spent a month down there, with Nathan's mother bringing them food. At the end of that month, they had the songs: "California Waiting," "Molly's Chambers," "Holy Roller Novacaine" and "Wicker Chair."

Their early music blended influences of blues and Southern rock, but later evolved throughout the years and included other genres and a more alternativearena rock sound.

Kings of Leon gained great success in the UK with 9  of their songs enter the Top 40 singles chart, two BRIT Awards in 2008, and three of their albums peaking in the top 5 of the UK Albums Chart. Because of the Times, the third album of the band also topped the chart.

The success of Kings of Leon did not end and overall the band has won 3 Grammy Awards out of 8 nominations.
