Free were an English rock band that was formed in 1968 in London and is best known for their signature song, "All Right Now" from 1970.

The song "All Right Now" has an interesting story to it and now we will share the story behind the song. It was actually created after a bad gig that the band had in Durham, England.

You see, the repertoire of Free at the time was mostly slow and medium paced blues songs. When the band finished their show in Durham, they walked off stage to the sound of their own footsteps. The applause had died before the drummer even left the drum riser.

It was then obvious to the band members that they needed an uptempo number, a rocker to close their shows and that is how the great song "All Right Now" came to life, reaching the No.4 spot on the US charts and the No.2 spot on the UK charts.

Rolling Stone magazine viewed that band as British hard rock pioneers and also ranks Pual Rodgers, lead singer of the band at the No.55 on its list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time". Paul Kossoff, the band's guitarist is ranked at the No.51 spot on its list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

The band disbanded in 1973. Paul Rodgers became the frontman of the band Bad Company with Simon Kirke playing the drums. Paul Kossoff went on to form Back Street Crawler in 1975, but died from a pulmonary embolism. He was 25 years old. Andy Fraser, basist of the band went on to form the band Sharks.
