During the Olympic Qualifying game between Peru and Argentina in 1964, officials made a controversial decision that started a big riot in the crowd sending them into rage.

Argentina was leading the score 1-0 when officials ruled out a late equalizer by Peru just minutes before the game's full time. This call started the riot in the crowd with fans throwing bottles and various debris onto the pitch.

In response, police fired tear gas into the crowd and the stands and that immediately caused the fans to panic, trying to run away, but the gates of Lima Football Stadium were locked and this unfortunate day ended with a total of 328 people dead, the result of a deadly stampede.

Since that day, the stadium had undergone several renovations and face lifts, making it a lot safer and modern than before.
