Did You Know? Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" is Actually a Ballad

Did You Know? Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" is Actually a BalladJanuary 19, 2014

Did you know? The hit single by the British electronic band Depeche Mode was originally a ballad that was written by band member Martin Gore. In a demo tape he brought to the studio it is clearly heard that Martin sings the song accompanied by a piano and nothing else.

Band member Alan Wilder and then record producer Flood heard Martin's version and suggested to "speed up" the song and tune a little bit, producing many different versions to the song. Martin of-course didn't like the idea because the song was written as a ballad to 1990's Violator album and because of that was named Enjoy The Silence.

The end result is that the originally written ballad became the song you are all familiar with today and without a doubt one of the most known and loved Depeche Mode songs - Enjoy The Silence.

Can you imagine it as a ballad or do you prefer it as it was released on the Violator album?
