Deep Purple are an English rock band that was formed in 1968 in Hertford. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical style changed over the years. Deep Purple originally formed as a progressive rock band, but decided to shift to a heavier sound in 1970.

Over the years, Deep Purple knew several line-up changes, with current band members consist of Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Don Airey. Past members of the band were Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore, Rod Evans, Nick Simper, Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale, Tommy Bolin, Joe Lynn Turner, Joe Satriani.

Our interesting fact of the day about the band, comes from the time when Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined Deep Purple, and so it goes like this. The first album that was recorded by the band after Gillan and Glover joined the band, was recorded with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

This was a live album that was called Concerto For Group And Orchestra, with Jon Lorn composing the music. However, band member Ritchie Blackmore was not a fan, as he didn't like rock musicians playing classical orchestras. Blackmore thought it was stupid when they were doing it.

Deep Purple were listed in the Guinness Book of World Records of 1975 as "the globe's loudest band", thanks to their 1972 concert at the Rainbow Theatre in London.

Deep Purple were ranked on the No.22 spot the Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list by VH1 and are also ranked fifth among the "most influential bands ever". The band have sold more than 100 million albums all over the world.

They received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards, and were inducted in 2016 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
