Aerosmith is an American rock band that were formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970. They are sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band."
Their music style is rooted in blues-based hard rock, but they also incorporate elements of heavy metal, rhythm and blues and even pop in their music, inspiring many different rock artists with thier unique sound and style.
But, before Aerosmith became famous and larger than life, they had to struggle for their success and built it slowly and steady.
It seems that in the early years of the band, Aerosmith could have made a lot more money as a cover band, because club owners preferred acts that played recognizable hits, yet Aerosmith were very determined to play their own material.
The band had to play in lots of high school dances and other low paying gigs, while they build themselves an audience and developed their repertoire.
Since those days, Aerosmith have become the best-selling American hard rock band of all time, selling more than 150 million records worldwide, including more than 70 million records in the US alone.
They have 25 gold albums, 18 platinum albums, and 12 multi-platinum albums, 4 Grammy Awards, 6 American Music Awards, and 10 MTV Video Music Awards.
Aerosmith were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and were included among both Rolling Stone's and VH1's lists of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The band's song "Livin' On The Edge" talks about how the world is a crazy place, but people remain stuck in their routines and refuse to change.
According to Aerosmith's autobiography, Walk This Way, the song was inspired by the Los Angeles riots of 1992, which took place after the white officers accused of beating the black motorist Rodney King were acquitted.
"Livin' On The Edge" won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal.

The song "Dream On" by Aerosmith was the first single that the band released.
Aerosmith's manager had the band share a house and concentrate on writing songs for their first album. Steven Tyler, lead vocalist of the band, had been working on this song on and off for about six years, writing it in bits and pieces. Tyler was eventually able to to complete the song with the help of the rest of the band.
Steven Tyler said that the song "Dream On" is about the hunger to be somebody, dream until your dreams come true.
This song also saved Aerosmith from being dropped by their label.

The song "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith was written by lead singer Steven Tyler about how frustrated he was with the band.
The band members were doing a lot of drugs at the time and tensions often ran high, especially between Steven Tyler and guitarist of the band, Joe Perry.
The song "Sweet Emotion" is also a statement about doing your own thing without letting others bring you down.
