101 Facts You Probably Never Knew About Music (part 1)April 9, 2014

Think you know a lot about the world of music or music trivia? I suggest you think again. We are glad to introduce to you some music facts that you probably never knew about. Whether they are useful or useless it doesn't really matter, as long as they are interesting and believe me, they are. So, let's dig in and learn 101 new music facts in 4 parts, just to let our brains the time to rest and recuperate.

 

1. Kiss band member, Gene Simmons can speak Hungarian.

 

2. John Lennon's eyesight was so poor that he was legally blind without his glasses.

 

3. Leo Fender who was the inventor of the Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars could not play the guitar. Isn't that amazing?

 

4. Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and Gary Moore who was a band member of Thin Lizzy, Skid Row and more, all write left-handed yet play guitar as if they were right-handed. Chris Martin from Coldplay plays guitar and also draws right-handed, yet he writes left-handed. And last but not least, the most famous "left-handed" player in the world of music, Jimi Hendrix, wrote with his right hand.

 

5. Roger Taylor is Queen's drummer, a great and talented musician who earned a lot of fame and fortune during his many years with the band, was spotted in Guildford's Sainsbury's supermarket filling out a National Lottery ticket. Now, if he is a multi-millionaire and he is, why fill out a Lottery ticket?

 

6. Former Guns N' Roses band member, Slash was actually born in Hampstead, London and not in Stoke as is reported usually.

 

7. Robert Moog's surname is actually pronounced Mogue, but everyone has said Moog for so long, that no one bothered to correct it anymore. If you didn't know, Robert was the inventor of the legendary Moog synthesizer.

 

8. Lars Ulrich, drummer of Metallica is actually a keen modern art collector and in 2008, he auctioned his "Last Basquiat" for no less than $13.5 million.

 

9. Bjorn Ulvaeus of Abba is almost 69 years old and suffers from severe memory loss. It's very sad and it appears that he no longer remembers much of his life.

 

10. The "Reverend Run", Run-D.M.C. member is in-fact a real ordained minister, with New York Pentacostal church Zoe Ministries.

 

11. We all know U2 as an Irish band, but it seems not all band members are really Irish. The Edge (David Evans) was born in Barking, east London to Welsh parents and Adam Clayton was born in Oxfordshire, England to English parents. Bono, what do you have to say about that?

 

12. Leonard Cohen is a real ordained Rinzai Buddhist monk.

 

13. The world's fastest rapper is without a doubt Ricky Brown and that's official as well. Brown holds the Guinness World Record by rapping 723 syllables in only 41.27 seconds! He did it on his track "No Clue" back in January 2005, and that was in front of a licensed speech therapist to make it official. WORD!

 

14. Jah Wobble, bassist of Public Image Limited worked for the London Underground for a while (post Public Image Limited). It is told that once he made an announcement over the PA system at London's Tower Hill underground station and I quote: "I used to be somebody. I repeat, I used to be somebody." You think it's true?

 

15. Damon Gough, also known as Badly Drawn Boy had trials for Manchester United football club.

 

16. George W Bush who was governor of Texas in 1997 declared May 15 as official "ZZ Top Day." Texas is the band's home-state.

 

17. When Johnny Marr was a teenager, he had trials in Manchester United football club to become a professional footballer. You think the fact that he wore eyeliner had something to do with the team not signing him?

 

18. The birth name of Veteran gangsta rapper Ice-T is Tracy Lauren Marrow. That's a real tough name…made of two girls and a vegetable.

 

19. Dido's album "Safe Trip Home" was partly-produced by Brian Eno, but the interesting part is the full name collaboration between Brian Peter George St John Le Baptiste de la Salle Eno and Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong. Thank god for short names…

 

20. The "random" artwork on the third album by Coldplay, "X&Y", actually uses the Baudot code. On the CD inner-booklet, the code spells out "Fair Trade."

 

21. The original Village People line-up was recruited using an advert which read "Macho types wanted: must have moustache."

 

22. Crooner Engelbert Humperdinck was born Arnold George Dorsey. He borrowed his stage name from a German composer who died in the year 1921.

 

23. Before being the frontman of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder was the singer in Bad Radio which was a progressive funk rock band heavily influenced by early Red Hot Chili Peppers.

 

24. Graham Coxon of Blur models for Cordings, an upmarket London gentleman's tailor, which is also part-owned by musician and singer Eric Claption.

 

25. Over the years, Brain Epstein, Pete Best, George Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Billy Preston and George Martin have all been referred to as The Fifth Beatle.
