1961: Pat Boone topped the US singles chart with 'Moody River', which also reached the No.18 spot in the UK. A tongue-in-cheek, heavy metal "comeback" was attempted by Boone in 1997 with the album 'In a Metal Mood (No More Mr. Nice Guy)'.

1968: The Rolling Stones scored their seventh UK No.1 single when the song 'Jumpin Jack Flash' topped the charts. Keith Richards said that he and Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics to the song while they were staying at Richards' country house. There, they woke up one morning by the sound of gardener Jack Dyer who walked past the window. When Mick Jagger asked what was that noise, Richards told him that it was Jack, jumpin' Jack.

1973: The song 'Frankenstein' by The Edgar Winter Group which was a US No.1 hit, was awarded a Gold record. They named the song due to the many cuts and patches that were contained in the original studio tape.

1987: Guns N' Roses made their UK live debut when they played at The Marquee Club in London. The venue was all sold out for this show.

2013: Slim Whitman, the American country music and western music singer and songwriter and instrumentalist died at the age of 90. He was known for his yodeling abilities and his smooth high octave falsetto. Whitman sold approximately 120 million records during his career. Michael Jackson said that Whitman was one of his ten favorite vocalists and George Harrison from The Beatles said that Whitman was an early influence on him. Paul McCartney credited a poster of Whitman to gave him the idea to play his guitar with his left hand with the guitar strung the opposite way to a right-handed player's.

 

2015: Wendell Holmes who was a blues musician died at the age of 71. Holmes released 12 albums as part of The Holmes Brothers. During their music career, they played with many famous and known artists like Peter Gabriel, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash and Levon Helm.
