10 Ways to Meet Your Favorite Band or Musician

10 Ways to Meet Your Favorite Band or MusicianJuly 29, 2014

Everyone who enjoys music has a favorite band or musician if not several. If you are one of these fans and you really want to meet your favorite band members, you've come to the right place, because in this article we will guide you with 10 easy and productive ways to fulfill your wishes and finally meet the musician you love so much.

So, take a pen and paper and start writing this down:

1. Go to many concerts and arrive early or stay late or even both

When you arrive very early or stay late more than anyone else, that's when you'll probably be able to see the band members getting in the venue prior to the show, or coming out of it after. There are times when band members stay around after the show and hang out with a few of their fans, so that's your chance to be there as well. To make this even easier for you, try this:

• Smaller bands know to recognize their devoted fans and they are those who turn up regularly to the band's shows. So, wear something that makes you unique and stand out and wear it all the time; this way you are easily recognizable by everyone, including the band members.

2. Find out which record label your favorite band or musician is on

Record labels have promotional teams known as "Street Teams" and if you join to one of those, you won't just help handing out various fliers before shows and concerts, but you will also may be given a back stage pass or even will be invited to promotional parties and that's a great way to meet your favorite band members or musician.

3. Look for VIP packages to concerts and fundraisers

VIP packages may be a bit more expensive than "regular" tickets, but often they include tickets to the concert, priority seating, invitation to meet the band members or musician and at times even a gift or an autographed memorabilia.

4. Talk with the roadies, security staff of the band and other people who seem to be associated and connected with the band and musician

The Roadies and the band's security staff are usually big guys you can't miss or ignore. They know everything about the band or the musician and if you are friendly and not too obsessive about it, they may help you get in and meet your favorite band members.

5. Check out forums of the band and find out where the members hang out and what hotels they stay in

Once you know where the band members hang out and in what hotel they stay in, try and book a hotel room near the band or at least at the area. There are bands which are loyal to certain hotels so their behavior is predictable and you can plan ahead. You may catch them at the bar of the hotel after the show or at the pool area before the show (when they are relaxing). If you can afford it, try and order the members a few drinks and in return they will probably chat with you and agree to take a photo with you as well.

6. Check with local musical instrument stores for musician clinics

You read it right. Some big music stores will have instructional clinics, and there is usually a lot of interaction with those who attend the clinics and the crowd sizes in most cases is limited.

7. Write reviews of records and concerts and publish it on a website or a local newspaper

Everyone reads reviews, from the person who buys the concert ticket to the band members themselves. This will help you get on the guest list or even receive a press pass and that of-course gets you access to the band members or musician.

8. Use the popular social networks (Facebook, Twitter and others) to gain important information

Just like checking forums of the band, check the different groups on Facebook, follow twits about the band as you are not the only die-hard fan out there, and so information is always shared and passed around the social networks and this may help you a lot knowing where you can meet the band members and how.

9. Whenever possible, enter contests to meet the band members or musician

From time to time you'll see different contests which guarantee meeting the band members as one of the prizes or even the main prize. Look out for those contests and enter them, as it makes you more eligible to meet your favorite band members or musician.

10. Be polite

Maybe the most important advice I can give you here is be polite. Here some key points to remember:

• Never attempt invading the band members personal space without permission.

• Never cry or hyperventilate. Be a friendly person and people will enjoy interacting with you.

• Before you attempt to hug any band member, take a picture with them or interrupt their personal moment – remember to ask their permission to do so.

• If they are busy, with friends or family then you should acknowledge them, be friendly and excuse the intrusion, that is if they are open to the interruption.

• Never run after them, approach them aggressively, scream at the members or musician, jump them or grab them. When you are polite, friendly and civil, you will be able to start a conversation.
